A Brief Biography

The Rev. Dr. David M. Evans

The Rev. Dr. David M. Evans is a native Texan and a graduate of Garland High School. He was baptized, confirmed and ordained in the First Presbyterian Church of Garland. He attended Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches and graduated in 1969 with a B.A. in psychology and sociology. While in college two important life decisions were made: he met Linda the first week of his freshman year and they were married two weeks after graduation. He also felt a call to ministry and was received as a candidate for ministry of Word and Sacrament. He received his Master of Divinity in pastoral theology from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1972, and later his Doctor of Ministry in congregational revitalization from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago in 1984. David served two congregations in Maryland early in his ministry, first as an associate pastor in Annapolis and later as a solo pastor in a suburb of Washington, D.C.. In 1978 he and Linda moved back to Texas when he was called as organizing pastor of Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church in Austin. He served SHPC for eighteen years. In 1997 he was called as pastor of Parkway Presbyterian Church in Corpus Christi, and in 2003 as the Director of Seminary Relations at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in 2003. In June, 2009 he returned to his first love, parish ministry, when he became the interim pastor of St. Mark Presbyterian Church in Boerne. Throughout his ministry David has had a passion for mission, both local and international, and he has participated in preaching, teaching and “hands-on” missions in Guatemala, Lithuania and Mexico. He is a passionate Houston Astros fan (he attended spring training in Florida last spring) and his “hobby” is the Texas Hill Country: reading its history, hiking its trails, exploring its back roads in his Jeep, fishing its rivers, and photographing its landscapes. He hopes to complete the Texas Master Naturalist course of study in the future. David is currently on the Church Relations Council of Schreiner University in Kerrville after nine years on the Board of Trustees, and serves as a consultant to the New Church Development Committee/Church Development & Evangelism Division of Mission Presbytery. Linda is the Director of Church Relations for Presbyterian Pan American School in Kingsville, officing out of their home in Austin. She is a vocalist, has served as an elder, and is a member of University Presbyterian Church in Austin. David and his wife, Linda are blessed with a wonderful family. Their son, Matt, is married to Maya and live in Dripping Springs. Matt and Maya have twin sons, Hadden and Jorren, who will be four in March and a daughter, Brynn, born on October 22. Their daughter, Whitney, is married to Mike Musitano, and they have a 17 month old daughter, Olivia. Mike and Whitney live in south Austin.
